WBCSMadeEasy: When and how did the inspiration and idea of joining civil service come in your mind?

    Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Since childhood.

WBCSMadeEasy: Tell us something about yourself? Educational Qualification, Marks/Division/Class, schooling…..

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: I am Mohammad Shujauddin Khan. I am a graduate in English (Hons.) from Delhi University and an alumni of Delhi Public School Mathura Road.

WBCSMadeEasy: What factors did you consider before selecting your optionals? What were they?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Size of syllabus, Availability of material, ease of studying, my own preference and ability to write (the subject).

WBCSMadeEasy: How did you sustain the study-momentum throughout the year?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Setting the target, selecting the right study material and enjoying the process with the dream in eyes. Momentum did break up but i gathered back.

WBCSMadeEasy: How many hours did you study per day? How many months did it take you to complete the core syllabus of Compulsory and optional subjects?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Six hours per day. It took one complete year. Optional (Sociology 3 months), Compulsory (9 months).

WBCSMadeEasy: Did u use internet, was it effective? Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Internet was thoroughly used..

WBCSMadeEasy: Were you doing any other job during preparation?

    Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: No.

WBCSMadeEasy: Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: www.gktoday.in monthly magazine. Thats it.

WBCSMadeEasy: Did u take coaching? How was the experience?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: No. This exam needs guidance not coaching. Spoon feeding doesn’t work here.

WBCSMadeEasy: What about Interview in WBCS? Was the board cordial?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: The mood of board is all your luck. Prepare your optional, your graduation subject and west bengal details.

WBCSMadeEasy: Plz suggest some good books for pre, comp, optional.

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Pre: Laxmikant, Modern Spectrum by Rajiv Ahir, Ramesh Singh (ECO), Class XI two geography NCERTs, karthick chandra mondol or any wb geo book, gktoday.in monthly magazine, One science book by arihant or any publisher, find a book on english if your english is weak (look at last year paper to decide on which book would be suitable for you).
Mains: Laxmikanth, Spectrum, Krishna Reddy, Ramesh Singh, 2 NCERTs, Gktoday, Arihant Science, R S Aggarwal Reasoning, Any good arithmetic book.

Sociology: Haralambos (other topics) , Ritzer (Thinkers), Internet. Thats it!

WBCSMadeEasy: What should be the strategy for cracking this exam? What message you want to give to all aspirants?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: The strategy is to know beforehand the question that is going to come in the exam. You know it by reading last year papers. After that you need to know the books. After that you need to read them. So the main strategy is your ability to learn from books. Once you have learnt it and once you know what is going to come in the exam. Go and write the exam and be a winner. Achieve your dreams. Note: Articulation will play a major role in mains exam.

WBCSMadeEasy: Anything else u want to share?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: Please learn how to read books. Please learn how to write what you have learnt (articulation). These are the two things that will sail you through. If you know how to read the book you will enjoy the process and wont get bored. I have mentioned a select few books and cleared the clutter. Repeat them multiple times (5-10 times). For current affairs you dont need to look anywhere but www.gktoday.in monthly magazine. The magazine is very vast and you would need only 10% from it. To learn the art of extracting data from this magazine read last three years pre and mains paper. You can also contact me at my email (insaankhan@gmail.com).

WBCSMadeEasy: Was it ur 1st attempt? If not what about previous ones? You are from which batch and what was your rank in WBCS Exam (Plz don’t mind)?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: It was my first attempt. 2015.

WBCSMadeEasy: Do you suggest anything on changed pattern of WBCS Exam like how to choose optional subject, how to study for main exam now , what should be the strategy etc.?

Mohammad Shujauddin Khan: I have spoken in detail above. All the best. Enjoy the process.

    Thank you…..
