    1.  “Cooperation crossed by conflict marks society wherever it is revealed”. Examine the relationship of social order and social conflict in the light of the preceding statement.

    2.  Define group. Discuss briefly the major types of human groups and their importance in modern social life.

    3.  Would you consider Karl Marx a sociologist  ?   Why ?

    4.  Discuss the relation between personality and socialization, throwing light in course of your discussion on the problem of over socialization.

    5.  Distinguish between power and authority. Analyze in short the nature and consequences of bureaucratic authority.

    Answer any two questions

    6.  Is social control of science and technology necessary in order to ensure their social responsibility ?  Give reasons for your answer.

    7.  Show how sociological theory and empirical research are related.

    8.  Write short notes on:

    (a) The sacred and the profane,

    (b) The role of consumption and consumerism in today’s economy and society.

    4.  Provide a point of view on the role of religion through the looking glass of the Indian social, political and economic fabric.

    5.  Discuss the development and impact of Civil Society movements in India.
