WBCSMadeEasy: When and how did the inspiration and idea of joining civil service come in your mind?

    Dipayan Ganguly: During my graduation.

WBCSMadeEasy: Tell us something about yourself? Educational Qualification, Marks/Division/Class, schooling…..

Dipayan Ganguly: BSc (Physics, Mathematics and Electronics) from Calcutta University, was an average student

WBCSMadeEasy: What factors did you consider before selecting your optionals? What were they?

Dipayan Ganguly: Zeal to achieve success, inspiring success story of toppers.

WBCSMadeEasy: How many hours did you study per day? How many months did it take you to complete the core syllabus of Compulsory and optional subjects?

Dipayan Ganguly: I did not follow a fixed schedule, used to study 3-4 hrs on weekdays and generally a couple of hrs more on weekends.
    12 months.

WBCSMadeEasy: Did u use internet, was it effective?

Dipayan Ganguly: I used Internet extensively. I used to browse through websites containing study materials, sample question papers. It was highly effective.

WBCSMadeEasy: Were you doing any other job during preparation?

Dipayan Ganguly: Yes I was working with an IT/BPO firm in Bhubaneswar

WBCSMadeEasy: Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

WBCSMadeEasy: Did u take coaching? How was the experience?

    Dipayan Ganguly: No

WBCSMadeEasy: What about Interview in WBCS? Was the board cordial? What should be a proper preparation?

Dipayan Ganguly: Board was cordial but they grilled me for 25 minutes. One need to have confidence , good manners and the ability to call a spade a spade. Board wants honest people with the right attitude.

WBCSMadeEasy: Plz suggest some good books for pre, comp, optional.

Dipayan Ganguly: NCERT books for general studies. For History- P Maity and Political Science- ND Arora. I used internet and Wikipedia at length to clear my doubts.

WBCSMadeEasy: What should be the strategy for cracking this exam? What message you want to give to all aspirants?

Dipayan Ganguly: Smart work, time management and patience. It may always be late, but it can never be early. Believe in yourself and have patience.

WBCSMadeEasy: Anything else u want to share?

Dipayan Ganguly: Toppers are not Super-humans. If they can achieve, so can you.

WBCSMadeEasy: Was it ur 1st attempt? If not what about previous ones? You are from which batch and what was your rank in WBCS Exam (Plz don’t mind)?

Dipayan Ganguly: It was my second attempt, I cleared Prelims in 2004 but could not appear for Mains as I was working in Bangalore and was not granted leave during the training period.

WBCSMadeEasy: Do you suggest anything on changed pattern of WBCS Exam like how to choose optional subject, how to study for main exam now , what should be the strategy etc.?

Dipayan Ganguly: Changed pattern is focusing more on general studies, which is a positive development. This brings candidates preparing for exams other than civil services on a common platform. Choosing optional subject should be based solely on the interest of the candidate. With MCQs introduced in Mains exam, preparation for prelims and mains is more fused. A candidate should continuously assess his strengths and weak points and set a benchmark for himself.

WBCSMadeEasy: Have you ever seen our website? How helpful it is in WBCS exam?

Dipayan Ganguly: Yes. Hats off to your efforts in guiding candidates for the prestigious civil services. The success stories of Civil Services Toppers help boost motivational levels of aspirants. Kudos!
