    HOW TO PREPARE POLITY-

    STRATEGY:

    • To begin one can start with the NCERT of class IX, Democratic Politics-I and move on to Class X NCERT, Democratic Politics-II, where one can get conceptual clarity about the politics and some concepts relevant to the understanding of the constitution. Finally, move on to the NCERT textbook of Class XI, Indian Constitution at work which is a must read and acts as a prerequisite to reading other standard books.
    • The next logical step which can enhance one’s preparation is to refer to India Polity by M.Laxmikanth, which alone can aid a candidate to score higher marks in this section in the Prelims stage. It happens to be the most resourceful and comprehensive book to prepare for Indian Polity for prelims.
    • Introduction to the Constitution of India by D.D. Basu can be extremely useful for mains and gives a candidate an in-depth analysis of the subject.
    • Candidates need not mug up all the articles of the Indian Constitution. Only a few important articles are necessary.
    • It is vital to go through a national daily like The Hindu or The Indian Express and while reading these, pay special attention to news items and editorials that are either related to the Indian Constitution or the national as well as international political systems, in one way or the other. All new bills, acts, policies and any related provisions should be noted down.

    1. The first in preparing for Indian Economy lies in understanding the concepts thoroughly. If one is clear with the conceptual part, learning this subject can be fun. One can start with Economics NCERT of Class IX and then move on to the Class X NCERT titled Understanding Economic Development. This paves way to Class XI NCERT – Indian Economic Development which has all the topics covered in detail.
    2. The next step is to take up Ramesh Singh’s Indian Economy as this book covers most of what one needs to know about Indian Economy and comes with data that gets updated with each and every edition. The syllabus coverage in this book is complete.
    3. Stage 2 of preparation is where one needs to concentrate on understanding the application of the fundamental concepts in day to day scenarios.
    4. Another must read is the Economic Survey of India published by the Oxford University Press on behalf of the Finance Ministry, which happens to be the finest and the most comprehensive document about the state of Indian Economy. It is an authentic government source for economic data which is extremely useful not just for Prelims but also for mains.
    5. Finally, every aspirant should attempt as many tests as possible to improve their skills in the subject.
