    1. When and how did the inspiration and idea of joining civil service come in your mind?

Ans: After being employed by two reputed organisations, i.e. SAIL and Kolkata Port Trust, I started preparing for WBCS as it is the most prestigious and respectful job in our state. Already I had completed the basic preparation for the Govt Exams till 2016, now I aspired for a higher level of preparation.

    1. Tell us something about yourself? Educational Qualification, Marks/Division/Class, schooling…..

Ans: I have passed 10th(2007) and 12th(2009) examination from Howrah Zilla School with 85% and 79% marks respectively. Then I have completed B.Tech(2013) in Electrical Engineering from St. Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology with CGPA of 8.75/10.

    1. What factors did you consider before selecting your optional? What were they?

Ans: This is the first time I appeared for the WBCS examination. I was not at all aware as well as prepared to face any other subjects as an optional subject rather than my own subject of graduation. it was Electrical Engineering I chose for the optional papers.

    1. How did you sustain the study-momentum throughout the year?

Ans: Before the preliminary exam I had already cleared 14 written(Govt) exams. The basic preparation was already completed by me. Thus I cleared the prelims with a revision of just one month before the exam. For the mains examination I had to work out for two to three hours a day for a time period of five months without a single-day gap.

    1. How many hours did you study per day? How many months did it take you to complete the core syllabus of Compulsory and optional subjects?

Ans: As the basic preparation was already done by me before the prelims, I only focused on the Compulsory subjects. It took five months for me to be in a position. For the optional subjects I had no time to go through. I had devoted only ONE DAY before the paper and focused only on the previous years question papers.

    1. Did u use internet, was it effective?

Ans: For the current affairs portion I have used the online pdf materials uploaded on the website of “visionias”.

    1. Were you doing any other job during preparation?

Ans: I was/am employed in Kolkata Port Trust as a “Senior Assistant traffic Manager”. During the preparation I did not take any special leave for the study-purpose.

    1. Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

Ans: Newspaper: Indian Express. Magazine: It is better to follow a good magazine on a regular basis, but I could not find so much time to go through a magazine due to my job schedule.

    1. Did  u take coaching? How was the experience?

Ans: I had gone through the mock test series for the Mains exam at SUCCESS/WBCSMadeEasy. I had also appeared the mock-interview session of SUCCESS/WBCSMadeEasy.

    1. What about Interview in WBCS? Was the board cordial? What should be a proper preparation?

Ans: Again due to the tough schedule of my present job I could not focus so much on the interview. But the board was so cordial that I did not face any problem or awkward situation. I was asked on by job profile, about the organisations where I have served and some basic questions related to the Indian Polity.

    1. Plz suggest some good books for pre, comp, optional.

    Ans:

Basic G.A.: I have read Arihant Publisher’s General Knowledge by Tarun Goyal

History: Class 9-10 level text books+ Tamilnadu board books+Basic GA book

Geography: Class 9-10 level books of state board and NCERT+Basic GA book

Polity: I have gone through a basic book by J.K. Chopra+Basic GA book

Economy: Newspaper+Magazine(Pratiyogita Darpan issue)+Basic GA book

Math: Fast track objective arithmetic by Arihant publishers+Class 7-10 state board books

    Logical Reasoning: R. S. Agarwal

    1. What should be the strategy for cracking this exam? What message you want to give to all aspirants?

Ans: A WBCS aspirant should firstly start with a very basic preparation with the subjects of History, Geography, Polity, Economy. Special focus to be given on Mathematics and Logical Reasoning as these are very scoring subjects. After completing these basic stages one should go for a little bit of voluminous book, not before than that. Handwriting should be very good for the Bengali, English and optional papers. Because good handwriting creates a very good impression on the examiner. Besides WBCS all the aspirants should appear for the other exams held by central or state government so that a basic experience and knowledge can gradually grow up within them. The optional paper should be chosen after a little bit of comparison-study and going through previous years question papers of 5-6 subjects.

    1. Anything else u want to share?

Ans: An aspirant should not pay heed to the rumours. There are too many negative stories regarding the preparation of WBCS which may mislead a candidate. I personally faced some candidates whose conception on the preparation strategy is totally absurd. Only hardwork, regular and disciplined work-out with a little bit of guidance help to succeed.

    1. Was it ur 1stattempt? If not what about previous ones? You are from which batch and what was your rank in WBCS Exam (Plz don’t mind)?

Ans: Yes, it was my first attempt.

    15. Have you gone through our website?

Ans: Yes, it is very helpful and every aspirant should go through it.
