Here are the seven stages of selection procedure-

• Notification for the exam
• Applying for the exam
• Appearing in preliminary exam
• Appearing in mains exam
• Appearing in interview exam
• Final Result

Generally, the notification for the Exam comes in the month of November, for the respective year.The aspirants can apply for the WBCS Exam only through the WBPSC website as the offline mode has been discontinued in all forms the Government’s recruitment process. Before applying, the aspirants must go through the whole notification in order to get clarification regarding the vacancies and to know about the necessary documents required.  The aspirants will get around 25 to 30 days from the day of notification release to register and apply for the WBCS Exam.The WBCS aspirants will get around two month of period after closing date of application form for the preparation for WBCS Prelims Exam. The multiple choice questions will be asked in the preliminary paper. There will be negative marking also and an WBCS aspirant will be penalised 1/3rd for each wrong answers. On the basis of marks in Preliminary paper,the recommended list of WBCS aspirants for the next phase i.e. WBCS Mains Exam will be prepared.After clearing the mains exam the aspirant is called for his/her interview, based upon which he/she is selected as an W.B.C.S Officer.The interview process generally occurs around August and the marks obtained by an aspirant in the interview session is added to his/her mains examination marks and then the total is calculated, based on which the selection procedure occurs.
