WBCSMadeEasy:When and how did the inspiration and idea of joining civil service come in your mind?

RAJAN AGARWAL:One of my friends told me about civil services based on my interest in social sciences, also during my third year of engineering I lost interest in coding and related activities. That’s when I took up the idea seriously.

    WBCSMadeEasy:Tell us something about yourself?

RAJAN AGARWAL:I am, inquisitive, resourceful, and time-bound, I love changes and challenges.
    Class10-93.4, Don Bosco Liluah 2008
Class 12-92, Don Bosco Liluah 2010
B.Tech-8.36, Institute of engineering and Management, Saltlake 2014

WBCSMadeEasy:What factors did you consider before selecting your optional? What were they?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Just one factor my love for the subject and the habit of inquisitiveness.

WBCSMadeEasy:How did you sustain the study-momentum throughout the year?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Test series and small goals and small rewards in return for achieving those small goals like a small cartoon clip for each completed book.

WBCSMadeEasy:How many hours did you study per day? How many months did it take you to complete the core syllabus of Compulsory and optional subjects?

RAJAN AGARWAL: Preparation of WBCS went on parallel with IAS preparation. On an average 12 hours a day(between prelims and mains) as I had not joined the companies through mu college placement.
    Optional 4 months
Compulsory is a continuous process along with current affairs

WBCSMadeEasy:Did u use internet, was it effective?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Yes very much. There were many websites which provided current affairs compilation and other details which made my work easier. Even compilations by wbcsmadeeasy came handy.

WBCSMadeEasy:Were you doing any other job during preparation?

    RAJAN AGARWAL:no .

WBCSMadeEasy:Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

RAJAN AGARWAL:The hindu and ABP(1 month prior to interview)

WBCSMadeEasy:Did u take coaching? How was the experience?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Trademarkias, Shibabazar, amazing experience, weekend classes ensured that I was able to continue my preparation along with my college studies and greater one on one interaction with the teachers.

WBCSMadeEasy:What about Interview in WBCS? Was the board cordial? What should be a proper preparation?

RAJAN AGARWAL:40 minutes interview.very cordial enjoyed the interview. Lots of trivial GK questions in rapid fire round along with dictation from Bengali newspaper and gist of schemes and detail of west Bengal as a state.

WBCSMadeEasy:Plz suggest some good books .

RAJAN AGARWAL:Optional-ignou BA history material is very good
Compulsory-basuc ncert along with laxmikant,gc leong,,test series, mrunal.org, don’t read any magazines. They are an overdose and daily newspaper laong with previous years paper

WBCSMadeEasy:What should be the strategy for cracking this exam? What message you want to give to all aspirants?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Give a minimum of 3 hours daily. That’s all. Don’t go by my 12 hours since that was for IAS. But 3 hours everyday(1 for optional, 1.5 for compulsory and .5 for current affairs). Also aptitude practice 10 minutes daily.Enjoy the process otherwise it will become very difficult. Take breaks and get back to studies.

WBCSMadeEasy:Was it ur 1st attempt? If not what about previous ones? You are from which batch and what was your rank in WBCS Exam ?

    RAJAN AGARWAL: yes

WBCSMadeEasy:What about the changing pattern of WBCS exam from 2014?like how
to choose optional subject, how to study for main exam now , what
    should be the strategy etc.?

RAJAN AGARWAL:if you get your graduation subject and u have studied a major chunk of the syllabus go for it, otherwise choose the one which you can study as long as needed without getting bored. And test series is very important for time management and practice.

WBCSMadeEasy:Have you seen our website, was it helpful?

RAJAN AGARWAL:Yes I referred to it for the current affairs compilation before the interview, and it helped with a few questions.
