WBCSMadeEasy:When and how did the inspiration and idea of joining civil service come in your mind?

Subhankar Majumdar:My father is a govt officer so my first inspiration comes from him. I always wanted to be independent and join a respected service. I think Civil service is the best option for that.


WBCSMadeEasy:Tell us something about yourself?

Subhankar Majumdar:Hi,I'm Subhankar Majumdar.I hv done my M.Sc in Economics in 2007.I started my preparatn from october 2008,given the prelims of 2009 nd 2010,but failed 2 clear.Cracked the 1st prelims in 2011 nd cleared d mains nd itrvw.Got selected as Revenue officer.Meanwhile got two other jobs(Inspector of min wages,Consumer Welfare Officerfrm Miscellaneous 2008,2009.Worked in these dept 4m 2011-sept 2014,before joing as Revenue Officer.On d basis of WBCS I got selected as Executive(Rank-09).

WBCSMadeEasy:What factors did you consider before selecting your optionals? What were they?

Subhankar Majumdar:In d present scheme there is only 1 optional.I will suggest every1 2 choose d subject of his/her graduatn.Otherws 1can choose on d basis of availability of materials.My optional papers were-Economics nd Psychology.I have got great help fm my teachers(Bishyajit da nd Shibaji da) nd fm some of my seniors at barasat.

WBCSMadeEasy:How did you sustain the study-momentum throughout the year?

Subhankar Majumdar:Its all about ur mindset.if u decide 2 achieve ur goal nd start to believe that it is possible,u will automatically get involved in study throught d yr.

WBCSMadeEasy:How many hours did you study per day? How many months did it take you to complete the core syllabus of Compulsory and optional subjects?

Subhankar Majumdar:I started my preparation from december 2012. I focused mainly on prili till 7th april. After preliminary examination I started preparing for mains. I think prili is the most difficult level because most students are eliminated from this round. I was very ignorant towards sociology because I
had to focus on other papers. I know that GK & constitution were my strong areas so I worked hard on them. I am weak in math so I targeted at least 60% in maths. For Pali I went to a tutor because it cannot be studied alone. In the initial two years of my study i have sacrificed every moment of joy 4m my life.they r like puja,mrg ceremony,b'day party...Tuition,study and a healthy gossip with frndz 4 atleast 2 hrs/day were my daily duties.i always tried 2 give as much time as possible 4 my study.there was no limit,it may b 9-10 hrs in d 1st 1yr or so.thereafter atleast 5-6 hours.

WBCSMadeEasy:Did u use internet, was it effective?

Subhankar Majumdar:Very rarely i used internet.

WBCSMadeEasy:Were you doing any other job during preparation?

Subhankar Majumdar:Already replied.

WBCSMadeEasy:Which newspapers & magazines you went through?

Subhankar Majumdar:Mainly Peshaprobesh,Yojana nd Protijogita Poriprekshit.

WBCSMadeEasy:Did u take coaching? How was the experience?

Subhankar Majumdar:Yes.it was really helpful nd necessary also.I took coaching 4m XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

WBCSMadeEasy:What about Interview in WBCS? Was the board cordial? What should be a proper preparation?

Subhankar Majumdar:My board was not at all crdl.4 personality test u will have 2 go through 2 d basic things,always be polite,nd answer truely.

WBCSMadeEasy:Plz suggest some good books for pre, comp, optional.

Subhankar Majumdar: For prelims go through all books of class 9 nd 10(old syllabus).for mains -oriental.
Beng-bamondeb,english-P.K.Dey sarkar,planning-tujammel hsn,constitution-d.d.basu,maths-oriental's wbcs mains.

WBCSMadeEasy:What should be the strategy for cracking this exam?What message you want to give to all aspirants?

Subhankar Majumdar: Preparatn 4 mains sud b started 4m immediately after d date of prelims.go through maths,hist,geo everyday.other subject-twice in every wk.

WBCSMadeEasy:Was it ur 1st attempt? If not what about previous ones? You are from which batch and what was your rank in WBCS Exam ?
