1,600 Vizag steel plant workers choose VRS.

• 1,600 employees, both executives and non-executives, have applied for the VRS offered by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).

• 660 are executives, 940 are non-executives.

• The total regular employees is 12,300, including 3,900 executives.

• 4,000 out of 12,300 employees are eligible for VRS.

• The scheme was open until January 31.

• Applicants are expected to receive VRS sanction notices and a month’s service notice by mid-February.

• The significant number of applications has surprised many, especially after the Union government announced a financial package worth ₹11,442 crore.

• The VRS is a response to the plant’s disinvestment plan, financial problems, delay in salary payment, and health issues.
