    • 22 out of 43 crossing points along the Myanmar-India border have started functioning under the revised FMR agreement.

    • At least 10 border gates have started operations in Manipur, five gates each in Mizoram and Nagaland, and two in Arunachal Pradesh.

    • The Union Home Ministry finalised new guidelines to regulate border residents’ movement with QR code enabled passes on December 6.

    • Despite Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement that FMR is being scrapped, the agreement is still in effect and no formal orders have been issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

    • The 43 crossing points were finalised by the MHA, and Assam Rifles is tasked with monitoring border movement.

    • FMR was introduced in 1968 due to ethnic and familial relations.

    • The territorial limit of free movement has been reduced to 10 km.
