    Who should take Botany optional?

Candidates who have taken Botany or Biology as their graduation major and are in touch with this subject can take this optional. Candidates who have lost touch but still like the subject or enjoy reading about it can select this subject.

Also, aspirants with a background in biotechnology can also opt for this optional subject.

    Advantages of Botany optional:

    • Being a science subject, it can be scoring.
    • Nothing is left to interpretation and the examiner’s personal views do not play any part in marking.
    • The portions are pretty much static.
    • Candidates need only to have their foundation clear and have conceptual clarity to write good answers.
    • You can score through diagrams in this subject.
    • The questions in this subject are direct and fundamental.

Botany is the best choice for Biology lovers. Once you get through it with a thorough understanding and grasp at all the concepts, and theories, you’re done. It takes no longer than 5 months to completely cover the subject. It has more advantage than other convetional subjects of Humanities.

One need not work hard a lot for writing practices, unlike others. All you need to do is look for the Syllabus once and plan your journey of preparation for it. Make sure you make all the notes and segregate them based on their topics.

Start preparing from the Paper-II part which are mostly things to understand like Biochemistry, Ecology, Organelles, etc. And this should take most time but it is so promising once you get hold of the knowledge. About the Paper-I, which is about Kingdoms, Phylums, etc. which needs a little rote-learning with good understanding and how they are related.

About the Answer writing in Mains, as Botany as an Optional, one should try to fill almost each and every answer with well-labelled diagrams(as diagrams itself would fetch you about 50–60% marks) and try underling the scientific names and scientists(which would be an eye-catcher for the evaluater).
