India-China Disengagement Progress: Demchok and Depsang Friction Spots
• India and China have completed 75% of disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
• Despite this, disengagement from five friction points remains, with two more remaining, Demchok and Depsang, with no progress made in the past two years.
• The optimism for further disengagement comes in the run-up to the BRICS Summit in October, where both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are scheduled to attend.
