Post-Liberalisation Per capita Income in India
• Southern states led the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) post-liberalisation in 1991.
• Uttar Pradesh and Bihar’s economic performances worsened post-bifurcation.
• Western states: Maharashtra and Gujarat performed well.
• Gujarat showed rapid growth from the start of the millennium.
• Northern states: Delhi and Haryana performed exceptionally well.
• Punjab’s performance consistently declined post-Green Revolution, possibly due to excessive focus on agriculture.
• Eastern states: West Bengal, which had the third best per capita income in the 1960s, regressed rapidly.
• Rajasthan and Odisha saw a turnaround post-liberalisation, but per capita income levels remained low.
