Monsoon’s withdrawal from Rajasthan
• The southwest monsoon has begun withdrawing from Rajasthan, a week later than scheduled.
• The withdrawal has started from west Rajasthan and Kutch, but is expected to continue in Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.
• The year has seen an active rainfall spell, with monsoon rainfall being 5% more than normal from June 1 to September 23.
• September rainfall is currently 3% less than normal, contrary to the IMD’s expectations.
• August rainfall was 15% more than expected due to multiple active “depressions” from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
• The withdrawal will be complete by mid-October, with the northeast monsoon replacing it.
