Today, Jaishankar will see Dissanayake.
• External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to visit Sri Lanka on Friday to meet the Sri Lankan leadership.
• The visit aligns with India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and SAGAR outlook, aiming to deepen the partnership for mutual benefit.
• Jaishankar will hold talks with new Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and will call on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and other party leaders.
• Discussions will focus on the future of Indian projects, private investments, devolution, and Tamil rights.
• The visit will also gauge the policies of the newly elected National People’s Power government in Sri Lanka towards investment from China and access to Chinese military and research vehicles.
• The visit may only take place after the Sri Lankan Parliamentary elections scheduled for November 14.
• The visit is expected to review India-backed energy and connectivity projects with the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration.
• Despite not explicitly committing to implementing the 13th Amendment, Dissanayake has committed to holding provincial council elections and addressing the country’s national question through a new Constitution.
