Kerala Urges Union Government to Release Vizhinjam’s VGF Without Conditions

• Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, urges the Union government to release the Vizhinjam’s share of VGF without imposing repayment conditions.

• Vijayan argues that the Centre has not prescribed such a repayment condition in the case of the VOC Thoothukudi port in Tamil Nadu.

• The condition would involve a further loss of ₹10,000 crore to ₹12,000 crore to the State exchequer.

• Vizhinjam port became the first port project in India to receive in-principle approval for VGF under the Scheme for Financial Support to Public Private Partnerships in Infrastructure.
