India’s Response to Canada’s Allegations of Amit Shah
• India’s Ministry of External Affairs has criticized Canada’s allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah as “absurd and baseless.”
• The Ministry’s spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that the charges would have “serious consequences” for bilateral relations.
• Jaiswal referred to the leak of information published in a U.S. newspaper as “unfounded insinuation” and referred to the allegations as “unfounded insinuation.”
• Canada’s New Democratic Party leader, Jagmeet Singh, equated the alleged Indian campaign against pro-Khalistan elements with the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
• India had previously withdrawn High Commissioner Sanjay Verma from Ottawa after Canada described them as “persons of interest” in the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan advocate
