    Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay Highlights Gelephu as Largest Cooperative Project

    • Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, praised India’s support for the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City as the largest cooperative project in Bhutan.

    • The 2,500-sq. km “Zero Carbon” city is being developed in collaboration with India.

    • The conference, hosted by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, attracted nearly 3,000 delegates, including 1,000 representatives from 100 countries.

    • Modi emphasized the need for global financial institutions to finance cooperatives worldwide.

    • To make cooperatives climate resilient, they should be linked to the circular economy.

    • The government has opened the way to prosperity for lakhs of villages, crores of women, and farmers through its motto of “Prosperity through cooperation”.

    • The Gelephu Mindfulness City is designed to be a hub of knowledge, technology, and finance, grounded in mindfulness, sustainability, and harmony.

    • Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has visited India twice to discuss the city’s plans and seek investment and collaborations from the Indian private sector.
