Parliamentary Turmoil Over BJP Allegation
• Both Houses of Parliament failed to function on Monday due to alleged links between BJP and George Soros.
• On December 2, the ruling and Opposition sides had agreed to allow Parliament to function.
• On December 5, acrimony returned when alleged links between Soros and Congress were raised by Treasury benches in both Houses.
• Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned proceedings due to disruptions.
• The Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments in the morning session, demanding a discussion on a “national security issue”.
• Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar invited the Leader of the House, J.P. Nadda, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, to his chamber to iron out the differences.
• Dhankhar received 11 notices under Rule 267, including from Sanjay Kumar Jha of the Janata Dal(U), a constituent of the ruling National Democratic Alliance.
• Congress members raised objections when the same issue was raised by Laxmikant Bajpai of the Bharatiya Janata Party during Zero Hour with the permission of the Chair.
• Congress leader Jairam Ramesh objected to Mr. Bajpai’s remarks, stating that when the Chair had rejected notices under Rule 267, the issues mentioned therein should not be allowed to be raised.
