Delhi Government Implies Firecracker Ban
• The Delhi government has imposed a complete ban on all forms of firecrackers throughout the year in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
• The ban covers manufacturing, storage, selling, and bursting of all kinds of firecrackers.
• The ban was imposed on October 14 till January 1, 2025.
• The Delhi government informed the Supreme Court that it had imposed an “allpervasive, permanent” ban on firecrackers.
• The ban was passed under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
• The ban would become effective only if the other National Capital Region (NCR) States of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh enforce similar measures.
• The Supreme Court directed the Delhi government to take a call on this issue in consultation with them.
• The court directed Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to impose a similar ban as Delhi.
