  • Gaganyaan-G1: Test Mission for India’s First Human Spaceflight

    • Gaganyaan-G1, the first of three uncrewed test missions, is designed to mimic the actual flight and validate critical technologies and capabilities.

    • The mission is part of three uncrewed tests leading up to India’s maiden human spaceflight.

    • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) began the assembly of the Human-rated Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (HLVM3) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on December 18.

    • The crew module, which will fly aboard the mission, is being integrated at the VSSC. Once ready, it will be transferred to the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) for integration with the service module.

    • The orbital module, consisting of the service module and the crew module, will be placed in a 170 km x 430 km elliptical orbit around the earth.

    • The mission will also flight-test the humanoid robot Vyommitra developed by the ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU).

    • The human-rating of the LVM3 vehicle has been completed and all systems have been tested for enhanced reliability.

    • The launch vehicle components have arrived at Sriharikota after clearing the human-rating process.
