SC advises T.N. Governor to resolve V-C impasse before hearing.
• The Supreme Court has requested the Attorney General of India, R. Venkataramani, to resolve a dispute with the State government over appointing Vice-Chancellors in major State universities.
• Justice J.B. Pardiwala stated that the Supreme Court would intervene unless the crisis is resolved by the next court hearing date.
• The State government is hearing multiple petitions on the Governor’s conduct regarding key higher education bills, pending prosecutions, remission of prisoners, government orders, and the constitution of search committees for V-Cs.
• The State government also filed an application challenging the Governor’s decision to refer 10 re-enacted Bills to the President, arguing it was “ex facie illegal, without jurisdiction, and in gross violation of the Constitution.”
