India, US boost underwater domain awareness.
• India and the U.S. are partnering with the Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance (ASIA) to increase underwater domain awareness (UDA) in the Indo-Pacific region.
• The alliance aims to increase industry partnerships and production in the region.
• The U.S. has offered co-production and co-development opportunities for UDA technologies, including Sea Picket autonomous surveillance system, Wave Glider unmanned surface vehicle systems, low-frequency active-towed sonar, multistatic active sonobuoys, large-diameter autonomous undersea vehicles, and Triton autonomous underwater and surface vehicle.
• The U.S. has also announced a review of its policy on releasing fifth-generation fighters and undersea systems to India.
• Negotiations are ongoing between U.S. companies and potential Indian partners regarding identified technologies.
• The leaders also pledge to elevate military cooperation across all domains, including air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace.
• The Quad level will activate new initiatives on “shared airlift capacity” and “maritime patrols” to improve interoperability.
• Other military platforms procured from the U.S. augment India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities in the Indian Ocean region.
