Rwanda’s M23 rebels invade Bukavu, Congo’s second-largest city.

• Rwanda-backed rebels, M23, have advanced into eastern Congo’s second-largest city, Bukavu.

• M23, backed by 4,000 Rwandan troops, is the most prominent of over 100 armed groups.

• The rebels have killed at least 2,000 people and left hundreds of thousands displaced.

• The rebels claim to have seized a second airport in Kavumu outside Bukavu.

• The UN warns that the escalation of fighting has left 3,50,000 internally displaced people without shelter.
