Arunachal Pradesh Christians to fast from Feb. 10 against anti-conversion law
• Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) plans a week-long fast from February 10 to call for the repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act of 1978.
• The ACF plans to meet with the State Assembly on March 6, when the Act is likely to be discussed for implementation.
• The Freedom of Religion Act, passed by the State Assembly during the Janata Party government, was enacted in 1978 to address concerns about the perceived threat to indigenous faiths in the State.
• The ACF president, Tarh Miri, argues that the government’s inaction against the ACF’s concerns is against the spirit of secularism.
