J&K needs new criminal laws by April: Shah
• Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the implementation of three new criminal laws in Jammu and Kashmir by April.
• He emphasized the need for police to prioritize safeguarding citizens’ rights due to a decline in terror activities and improved security.
• Decisions on terrorism and organised crime provisions should be scrutinized by a Superintendent of Police.
• Shah chaired a review meeting on the implementation of the new criminal laws and the status of other provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensics.
• He stressed the need to change the attitude of police personnel and administration and create awareness about the new laws among citizens.
• He also stressed the need for police officers to expedite the process of filing chargesheets and to train all investigating officers in the new laws.
• Despite the new criminal laws not being within the jurisdiction of the newly elected J&K government, discussions were held on spreading awareness in schools and universities.
