Delhi hit by 2nd strongest quake in 30 years.
• A 4-magnitude earthquake in Delhi, the strongest since a 4.6-magnitude temblor in 2007, occurred early on Monday.
• The earthquake, accompanied by a distinct rumble, served as an early-morning awakening to residents in the National Capital Region.
• The quake was’shallow’, a mere five kilometers from the surface, indicating that most of the energy dissipated by the time seismic waves reached the surface.
• From 1993 to 2025, 446 earthquakes ranging from 1.1 to 4.6 have been reported, with the highest magnitude (M 4.6) reported on November 25, 2007.
• The earthquake occurred due to normal faulting, supporting the concept of hydrofracturing as the principal cause of seismogenesis.
• The latest quake conformed with previously reported patterns in Delhi, indicating that it is unlikely that the city and its surrounding suburbs would experience a quake bigger than a 6 magnitude.
