First-time MLA Rekha Gupta named Delhi CM
• Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has been chosen as the new Delhi Chief Minister by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
• Gupta, 50, will be the fourth woman to head the government in the Union Territory.
• The announcement comes nearly 10 days after the BJP returned to power in the national capital after 26 years.
• Gupta, a three-time municipal councillor and active in student politics, beat several probable candidates including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay.
• The oath-taking ceremony is set to take place at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday.
• Gupta’s selection was overseen by senior MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and former Haryana MLA O.P. Dhankar.
