Supreme Court Requests Election Commission to Handle Vote Recording Demands
• Supreme Court requests the Election Commission to meet petitioners and hear their demand for authenticated, scanned, and legible vote records.
• Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s Bench directs Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) representatives to present their case before the EC in 10 days.
• The panel agrees to grant the petitioners a hearing to resolve the issues.
• The EC’s affidavit in May 2024 argued against public disclosure of turnout data, arguing there was no “legal mandate” to provide data to anyone other than candidates or polling agents.
