  • Six districts are the “most affected” by left-wing extremism: Shah

    • The number of districts most affected by left-wing extremism has decreased from 12 to six.
     • Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the Modi government is building a “Sashakt (strong), Surakshit (safe), and Samriddh (prosperous) Bharat” with a ruthless approach to naxalism.
     • The number of districts affected by Naxalism has reduced to 18 from 38.
     • The six most affected districts are Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Sukma in Chhattisgarh; West Singhbhum in Jharkhand; and Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.
     • The districts of concern need additional resources are Alluri Sitarama Raju in Andhra Pradesh; Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh; Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Malkangiri in Odisha; and Bhadradri Kothagudem in Telangana.
     • The Government of India provides financial assistance of ₹30 crore and ₹10 crore to the most-affected and districts of concern.
