    • Exporters across India are calling for the early conclusion of a bilateral free trade agreement (BTA) with the U.S. following a 26% reciprocal tariff imposed by President Trump on Indian imports.
    • Ajay Sahai, director general and CEO of the Federation of Indian Exporters Organisation, argues that India’s position remains favorable despite the tariffs.
    • Certain sectors in India, including apparel, gems and jewellery, leather, electronics, chemicals, plastics, and furniture, may experience a diversion of exports.
    • However, engineering exporters are not optimistic, with the U.S. being the top destination for engineering goods exports.
    • The textile and apparel sector is optimistic, with the tariff offering an opportunity for better market access.
    • Exporters should focus on expanding into new destinations, while strategic engagement with the U.S. remains critical.
