    • Kannadippaya, a unique tribal handicraft from Kerala, has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The GI tag ensures market protection and a global platform for this traditional product. The product, known as a mirror mat, is made from reed bamboo, providing warmth during winter and cooling effect in summer. The craft is preserved by various tribal communities and artisans in Idukki, Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Palakkad districts. The best-quality kannadippaya is woven from reed bamboo species like Njoonjileetta, Njoojoora, Ponneetta, Meieeta, and Neytheetta. Historical records suggest that kannadippaya was once presented to kings as a mark of honour. The Kerala Forest Research Institute played a crucial role in securing the GI tag.
