PM: New Pamban bridge engineering marvel

• The 2.07-km bridge connects Rameswaram island with Ramathanapuram on the mainland.

• Constructed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. at a cost of ₹531 crore.

• Features a 72.5-metre vertical lift span that can be raised to 17 metres for smooth ship movement and improved rail connectivity.

• New train services between Rameswaram and Tambaram, Chennai.

• Prime Minister describes the bridge as an “engineering wonder” that combines technology and tradition.

• Expected to enhance connectivity, benefit trade and tourism in Tamil Nadu.

• The bridge is three meters higher than the existing one.
