    • The Trump administration has announced a move to exclude electronics goods like smartphones and laptops from reciprocal tariffs.

    • This move could help lower prices for popular consumer electronics not typically made in the U.S.

    • The exemption will benefit tech companies like Apple and Samsung and chip makers like Nvidia.

    • Items such as smartphones, laptops, hard drives, flat-panel monitors, and some chips qualify for the exemption.

    • Machines used to make semiconductors are also excluded.

    • The move is the latest in a plan to encourage more domestic manufacturing.

    • The exemptions acknowledge the difficulty of shifting the current electronics supply chain to the U.S., with about 90% of iPhones produced and assembled in China.
