    • In April 2023, a power struggle between two generals led Sudan into a violent cycle, displacing nearly 13 million people and triggering the world’s first declared famine in four years.

    • Over 1,50,000 people have lost their lives.

    • Despite initial setbacks, the army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has regained ground.

    • The RSF maintains control over much of the western Darfur region, laying siege to El Fasher.

    • Both sides bear responsibility for Sudan’s descent into chaos and anarchy.

    • The military accuses the UAE of backing the RSF, while the army receives support from Russia, Turkey, Iran, and Qatar.

    • Civilians have endured relentless air strikes, indiscriminate attacks, and looting, and a near-total collapse in healthcare, education, and access to food and water.

    • The world needs to pay attention to Sudan’s humanitarian crisis and push for urgent talks between the warring factions.
