CM: Karnataka would guarantee no unfairness in caste census
• Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assures his government against any injustices due to growing opposition to the Socio-Economic and Education Survey report, also known as the ‘caste census’.
• The report, placed before the Cabinet on April 11, will be discussed at a special Cabinet meeting scheduled on Thursday.
• Vokkaligas and Veershaiva-Lingayats, two dominant communities in Karnataka, have expressed reservations about the survey, calling it “unscientific.”
• Siddaramaiah assures that the survey is a socio-economic survey, not a caste census.
• The survey findings are contrary to the “traditional perception” regarding the numerical strength of various castes, making it a politically sticky issue.
• Ministers from these two communities are preparing to place their objections during the next Cabinet meeting.
