‘Trump rhetoric won’t hurt Apple India manufacturing’
• Apple’s existing and upcoming infrastructure in India is sufficient to meet iPhone demand in India and the US.
• U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments to Apple CEO Tim Cook in Qatar did not cause much concern in India.
• Apple has committed $500 billion in U.S. manufacturing, which is not practical for shifting to a high-cost country like the U.S.
• Apple’s manufacturing commitments for the U.S. are for chips and other components not being made in India.
• Apple is serving demand for its phones and accessories via existing and planned units: Foxconn assembly unit in Sriperumbudur, Pegatron facility at Mahindra World City, components manufacturing unit in Krishnagiri, and new Foxconn facility in Tumkur.
