A Ladakh domicile badge requires 15 years of continuous residency
• The Union government is considering a new policy for Ladakh, allowing citizens who have a continuous 15-year stay since 2019 to be considered domiciles.
• Any ‘outsider’ who settled in Ladakh after its special status was read down will only be considered a domicile after 2034.
• The policy is crucial for eligibility for 5% gazetted government vacancies, as many citizens fear job displacement from other parts of the country.
• At least 80% of the vacancies are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, 4% for people living along the Line of Actual Control/Line of Control, 1% for Scheduled Castes, and 10% for Economically Weaker Sections.
