Centre to resume Kuki-Zo insurgency talks
• The Union Home Ministry plans to re negotiate the suspension of operations (SoO) pact with Kuki-Zo insurgent groups in Manipur.
• The SoO framework must be in place before any “political solution” can be reached.
• The Kuki-Zo SoO groups will hold talks with the Ministry’s Northeast adviser and Intelligence Bureau officials on June 9.
• The SoO groups have changed their demand for autonomous territorial councils within Manipur after the erupted ethnic violence in May 2023.
• A condition for further talks is the removal of SoO camps from valley districts dominated by the Meitei people.
• Meitei groups accuse the SoO groups of carrying out armed attacks during and after the ethnic violence.
