    • Tribal population in Munnar, Kerala, has started turmeric farming on abandoned lands due to wild animal attacks.

    • The initiative was supported by the Forest Department.

    • Last year, turmeric was cultivated on two acres under the Munnar forest division, yielding rich dividends.

    • This year, turmeric farming will be done on 55.56 acres in tribal settlements of the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Eravikulam National Park, and Anamudi National Park.

    • All wild animals, including elephants and wild boars, have retreated from turmeric farms.

    • Turmeric farming offers an average yield of five tonnes per acre of land.
