    • Two migrant workers from West Bengal, Fazer Mandal and Taslima Mandal, were arrested in Maharashtra and deported to Bangladesh by the Border Security Force (BSF).

    • The couple were handed over to the BSF after a flag meeting along the international border in Uttar Dinajpur district.

    • Three migrant workers from West Bengal were also handed over to Mekhliganj police station in Cooch Behar district.

    • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP governments of targeting Bengali-speaking citizens and labeling residents of the State with valid documents as “illegal” Bangladeshi immigrants.

    • Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Samirul Islam stated that the migrants were “deported” to Bangladesh despite showing all relevant proof of being Indian.

    • Islam questioned why the Maharashtra Police handed over these workers to the BSF without informing the West Bengal government and why the BSF didn’t contact the local administration to verify their identities before sending them to another country.
