For the first time, India enters the top 100 worldwide SDG rankings
• India ranks 99th out of 167 nations in the 2025 edition of the Sustainable Development Report (SDR).
• The score is 67, a significant improvement from its 109th rank in 2024.
• China is 49th with a score of 74.4, while the United States is 44th with 75.2 points.
• The index measures progress towards achieving the 17 SDGs adopted by United Nations member states in 2015.
• Among India’s neighbours, Bhutan ranks 74th, Nepal 85th, Bangladesh 114th, and Pakistan 140th.
• Maritime neighbours Maldives and Sri Lanka rank 53rd and 93rd respectively.
• Despite India’s gains, global progress on the SDGs has largely stalled, with only 17% of targets on track to be achieved by 2030.
• European nations continue to dominate the index, with Finland, Sweden, and Denmark holding the top three positions.
