Election Commission Clarifies Bihar Voters’ Submission Instructions for Special Intensive Revision (SIR)
• The Election Commission (EC) has clarified instructions for Bihar voters regarding the submission of one of 11 documents for validation in the SIR of electoral rolls.
• The announcement sparked confusion as the Bihar Chief Electoral Officer urged voters to submit filled electoral forms for the SIR, even without the required supporting documents.
• Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, claimed the EC has backtracked under pressure.
• The State’s Chief Electoral Officer, Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, stated that the SIR is progressing as per ECI’s order dated 24 June 2025.
• EC sources stated that there is no change in the instructions and that those who fail to submit their documents will have an opportunity during the claims & objections period.
• As of 7 p.m. on Saturday, a total of 1,12,01,674 enumeration forms have been collected in Bihar, representing 14.18% of the total number of potential voters.
