NIA to give a progress report on Jiribam’s slaughter of women and children in 2024
Manipur High Court Requests Progress Report on Meitei Community Abduction
• The Manipur High Court has requested a detailed progress report from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the abduction and killing of six Meitei community women and children.
• The case was raised during a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by Uripok Apunba Lup, a civil society organization.
• The court ordered the NIA to submit a detailed progress report in terms of chargesheet before the court of law.
• The court has also taken up two other cases related to the incident, including the alleged rape and burning of a Kuki-Zo woman and an attack on a CRPF post.
• The Union Ministry of Home Affairs argued that the Jiribam cases fall under the State government, despite the NIA’s central agency status.
