Mamata Banerjee Announces Language Movement Against BJP’s ‘Linguistic Terrorism’
• Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister, announced a “language movement” against the BJP’s ‘linguistic terrorism’ and detention of migrants at Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata.
• The movement aims to protest against the ‘attack’ on Bengali language and the detention of migrants.
• Banerjee directed her party supporters to organize marches and meetings against the violence and disrespect shown towards the Bengali language from 27 July until the 2026 Assembly polls.
• She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for arresting people for speaking Bengali and using a teleprompter to speak two words in Bengali.
• Banerjee also vowed to force the BJP to chant ‘Joy Bangla’ after the Assembly election.
