Assam Eviction Drive Plans to Acquire Naga Lands
• The Niki Sumi faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) accuses the Assam government of evicting Naga lands in Golaghat district’s Uriamghat.
• The eviction drive is alleged to be a plan to evict “illegal Bangladeshi immigrants” who have settled in the “disturbed area belt” (DAB) without consulting the Nagas.
• The NSCN faction has called on the Naga people to pressure the Nagaland government to increase security along their ancestral lands’ borders.
• The Assam government has engaged police personnel and bulldozers to clear 11,000 hectares of land at Uriamghat, but the drive is not yet finalized.
