    • The Election Commission has announced the Vice-Presidential election to be held on September 9.

    • The election was triggered by Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation on July 21, leading to a mid-term vacancy in the second highest constitutional position.

    • The election will be held in accordance with the system of proportional representation, with each vote having the same value.

    • The Electoral College consists of 233 elected members of the Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, and 543 elected members of the Lok Sabha.

    • The election will be held in accordance with the system of proportional representation, with preferences marked against the names of the candidates.

    • A nomination paper of a candidate must be subscribed by at least 20 electors as proposers and by at least 20 other electors as seconders.

    • Political parties cannot issue whips to their MPs in the matter of voting in the Vice-Presidential election.
