“Untouchability Wall Destroyed in Tamil Nadu”
• A “untouchability wall” was built by caste Hindus in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, allegedly to restrict access to the Arunthathiyar Scheduled Caste community.
• The wall, about 200 feet long and 10 feet high, was raised three weeks ago on government poramboke land.
• The SC community alleged the wall was meant to restrict access to areas where caste Hindus lived.
• The SC community denied the claim, claiming the wall was built to prevent anti-social activities by ‘outsiders’ under the influence of alcohol.
• The leaders of the caste group reportedly destroyed the wall on their own.
