Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s Letter to PM on U.S. Tariffs Impact

• Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the significant impact of U.S. tariffs on the state.

• The tariffs have disproportionately greater implications for Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing sector and employment scenario.

• The most affected sectors are textiles, apparels, machinery, auto components, gems and jewellery, leather, footwear, marine products, and chemicals.

• The textile sector, which employed nearly 75 lakh people, is at immediate risk with a 25% tariff and a proposed 50% tariff, putting an estimated 30 lakh jobs at risk.

• Stalin urged the Union government to take immediate measures, including introducing a special interest subvention scheme for all exporters affected by tariffs and accelerating free trade agreements and bilateral arrangements to offset high-tariff market risks.
