Indian Astronaut to Land on Moon by 2040

• Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced that an Indian astronaut will land on the moon by 2040.

• The space economy of India is projected to reach $45 billion in the next decade.

• The discussion was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha.

• Singh stated that India will undertake an uncrewed space mission involving a robot, Vyommitra, in 2026, followed by its maiden human spaceflight, Gaganyaan, in 2027.

• India plans to set up its own Bharat Antariksh Station in 2035 and an Indian astronaut will set foot on the moon in 2040.

• The discussion was disrupted by Opposition members protesting over the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
